This weekend we are having the Victor Jaczun Regatta. Victor was the primary force behind the creation of Nockamixon Sail Club, and was a Commodore for many years. This regatta helps memorialize his contributions to sailing at the lake and to NSC. Since it is a regatta, all boats are welcome to race, and all boats will start races together. Skipper’s Meeting is at 10:00 on A-dock, with racing following at 11:00 on the water.
Speaking of racing and sailing, an excellent way to enjoy a day on the water and learn more about racing is to join a race committee on the Committee Boat. Cruising members are encouraged to join RC. You’ll learn about setting marks for a course, and how to run the starting sequence and score races. There is usually room to tag along, but specifically on June 3 we need a full RC, usually 1 experienced committee person and 1 “assistant” and again on July 15 we need an assistant. Please contact me or Gary Bonner if you are interested in participating these 2 days – or any race day for that matter.
Also, keep in mind that Rt. 563 will be closed Sunday morning until about 10:00 for a triathlon which is being held out of Tohickon Access. You’ll probably see buoys for the swim course set up on Saturday.
The weather is a little iffy for Saturday, with clouds expected ahead of a weak front bringing rain showers Saturday afternoon and evening. Temperatures in the low 70’s from the cloud cover. Wind forecasts look a little contradictory between sources, either light and building clocking around from NE to NW, or solidly SE at 6 knots with gusts to 15. Sunday should be sunny and warmer with highs in the upper 70s, but winds forecast out of the NW stronger overnight becoming more light and variable.
