Weekend events for August 24 and 25

Hello, everyone. We’re going to see a nice change in the weather this weekend, as a cold front comes down from the north on Thursday night and sweeps out the heat and humidity.

Events kick off tonight, Wednesday, with informal sailing up at the lake after work. It looks like at least 4 Sunfish are reserved, and there may be a group of Flying Scots out as well. Hoping that a line of thunderstorms will hold off until 9:00-ish, or just dissipate entirely.

On Saturday we have a rescheduled Invitational Regatta from May. All boats welcome, with single start.

On Sunday, we have a Water War scheduled at noon (sail around and blast each other with water guns etc.) followed by a mid-day raft-up in No-Name cove. Again, any member is welcome to run the Committee Boat out for grilling.

As noted above, a cold front clears through the area on Thursday, bringing relief from the heat and humidity. Saturday should be sunny and cooler, maybe making it to 80º, and Sunday even cooler with temps staying in the upper 70’s. That’s gonna feel downright cold to us, so bring a sweatshirt! We may see some interesting wind directions this weekend. Usually after a front comes through, we get NW winds, but forecasts this far out show N to SE rotation over the weekend. Saturday’s best winds could be NNE in the mid-morning, tapering off through the afternoon. Sunday shows E turning to ESE and building to a nice 8-13 knot breeze. As usual, wind forecasts this early in the week are not very reliable, so check your sources on Saturday morning.
