8 Bells for our friend Leonard Evelev

Guest Post

It is with great sadness, that I would like to convey that Leonard Evelev, passed away this morning.  Leonard was a longtime fleet member and an integral part of our life at the lake.We all loved Leonard, and his wife, Helen, to whom he was married 65 years.  Leonard and Helen have been part of our Flying Scot Fleet since the beginning and Leonard only recently stopped sailing his Scot.Len was born in 1926 and started sailing in 1947.  Helen and Leonard hosted the Fleet picnic for many years, at their beautiful home, along the Delaware River.  Helen and Leonard would school the fleet, on an annual basis, on how Bocce was played best.I had the great pleasure of sailing with Leonard as my crew at the 2011 North American Championships, and both Len and Helen truly loved to be on the water.Len and Helen also were philanthropic in their home of Philadelphia, and Helen has gifted Leonard’s body to Jefferson Medical University, which is exactly what Leonard would have wanted. We will miss Len greatly and our condolences go out to Helen.  No services are planned at this time.Phil Scheetz
