This Saturday, we have our first invitational regatta. It is the Victor Jaczun Invitation Regatta. Victor was one of the founding members of Nockamixon Sail Club and former commodore, who was instrumental in starting the club.
Regattas welcome all boats to race, with a single start for all classes and races scored using the Portsmouth handicap system. You don’t need to be a racer to join in a regatta!
Skipper’s meeting will be held at 10:00 on A-dock, with racing starting at 11:00 out on the lake.
We’ve had terrible weather most of this week, and so far the forecast for Saturday looks like it might stay cloudy and dry with scattered showers in the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the upper 60’s, with winds forecast out of the East around 3 knots with gusts to 7 knots. Basically, a pretty light wind day. Weather models are conflicted on Sunday, but hopefully Sunday will stay dry with clouds and stronger easterly winds.
I’d like to remind everyone that the club website (nockamixonsailclub.org) hosts our official event calendar. We have a full moon raft-up coming up Saturday, May 25, and our Sunfish cleanup day on Tuesday, May 28 at 5:30 pm. Sunfish boats will be available to use following our cleanup, with our first evening Sunfish sail on Tuesday June 4. I recommend anyone interested in using the Sunfish this year come out for these 2 kickoff events to learn about the Sunfish sailboats.
