Hey, everyone, it’s a big weekend at the lake, but not a big weekend for the Club. Expect beautiful weather, but a bit of difficulty with access, because… It’s Steelman Triathlon Weekend!
Saturday night expect some form of raft-up or meet up for volunteers planning to stay overnight on their boats to support the Steelman on Sunday morning. More details should be forthcoming from event coordinator Paul Coache, and I expect those details to be posted on the Club’s private Facebook group. If you aren’t a member of that Facebook group, you should consider joining, as most member-to-member chatter happens there. Even if you can’t participate on Sunday morning, you are welcome on Saturday evening. And of course on Sunday morning beginning wayyyyy to early, the triathlon participants begin to arrive around 4:30 am. Route 563 will be closed in the morning for the bike portion of the tri, and the marina will be closed until at least noon. Also keep in mind that there will be limited room for dry-sailed boats and trailers in the marina rigging lot, as there will be tri tents and staging areas set up until mid-afternoon. Parking will be spotty as folks clear out through the afternoon.
Weather should be gorgeous this weekend, as a front passes through the region Thursday night, leaving bright sunny skies, low humidity, and temperatures in the low 80’s through the weekend. The wind forecast looks promising with breezy WNW winds through Saturday afternoon, and pleasant westerly winds around 6-8 knots forecast for Sunday. Steelman support boats get the best of it, as they will have most of the lake to themselves for the early afternoon.
