Yes, everyone, you may have guessed it, THIS weekend is the annual Up the Lake, Down and Back regatta and Club Picnic! I hope you’re signed up and registered, because it’s this Saturday. The day gets started at 8:30ish, when we meet to set up the tents. Please bring a sledge hammer if you have one, because our usual Tent Meister, Dan Reasoner is somewhere in the Atlantic ocean off Long Island, and he won’t be bringing his sledge hammer. Or Peter Gabriel, for that matter. At 10:00 we will have a Skipper’s Meeting for the ULDB distance race. As usual, we will have a racing class and cruising class. The race starts at 11:00, followed by the picnic. Bring a dish to share.
But, wait, the fun doesn’t stop there! On Sunday we have our first scheduled afternoon raftup. Everyone is invited, not just the Family Fleet. This is a great opportunity for someone to run the Committee Boat out to No Name Cove to start the raftup, and to use the new grill for some tasty grilled food. Speaking of the Family Fleet, our second round of Kid’s Sunfish Learn to Sail classes begin on Sunday as well.
The weather is going to be a scorcher, with a high of 90º expected Saturday, and 85º on Sunday. Both days should be partly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon; basically typical summer afternoons for us. The winds look very good for Saturday’s race, with W winds at 11 knots and puffs up from there. Sunday’s winds could be a bit stronger, veering to the NW.
See you at the party!
Commodore Brian
