Hey, everyone, I hope you had a great time at the ULDB Regatta and Picnic! Everyone I saw had fun, except for that storm in the afternoon. Please keep your eye on the weather out there on the water. It’s summer afternoon storm season, and we had a Sunfish on Saturday find out first-hand what the storms can be like (Note: It’s scary.) There are great apps for smartphones that can show you almost real-time weather radar. I have one which has helped me dodge storms quite a few times.
For this weekend, we have our annual Sunfish Picnic on Saturday. For this event, we rig up all the Sunfish for any member to come try out. You’re encouraged to bring your own singlehand boat if you want, and I hear Craig T will bring his Laser. This event will get set up along the lake shoreline on the side of the main lot beginning at 9:00. There will be grilled yummies, and don’t forget to bring something to share.
On Sunday we have another installment of our Family Fleet Kid’s Sunfish sailing lessons starting at 9:00.
The weather should be quite warm all weekend, and muggy, perfect for floating around. Forecasts are showing a dry 4th on Thursday, scattered showers on Friday afternoon, and more afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday. Sunday will probably be one of the better days this weekend, as temps and humidity may drop some. Expect temperatures to bump up around 90ยบ most days. Winds are forecast as ESE at 7 knots on Thursday, S at 5 knots Friday, Saturday more spirited SW winds around 10 knots and Sunday back to E and NE at maybe 5-10 knots. Some of those directions are kinda unusual this time of year.
