This weekend, we have our August Regatta day. All boats will race under Portsmouth Handicap with a single fleet start. Skipper’s meeting is 10:00 on A dock with racing beginning on the water at 11:00. Race Committee of Randy and Bill will have a challenge this weekend, as the chase boat is not running properly, and probably shouldn’t be used. Unfortunately, our dealer Highway Marine is running a 3 week backlog. Quartermaster Craig and I tried to work on it this past Saturday by replacing the fuel injectors, but on the way back to the lake, a tire blew out on the trailer. After we retrieved a spare and cut the old tire off the hub, we realized that the axle of the trailer got bent. So now we need to replace the trailer axle and get new tires before we can pull the boat out again. Sadly, the injectors did not help the motor at all, and it is still not idling or making enough power to plane the boat. If anyone has a spare powerboat to help Race Committee set buoys, please let us know. (I shoulda bought Warren’s old aluminum skiff when he was selling!)
On Tuesday, we will be having another Sunfish evening after work. Meet back by Sunfish storage around 5:00 to rig and then launch.
I just received notice today that our anniversary shirt order is complete. Swagman Bill and I will be sorting the orders, and Bill hopes to bring them with him to distribute after the racing on Saturday. Come up to the lake and meet at the back of the parking lot around 1:30 or 2:00 after racing.
Weather this weekend should shape up after our week of rain. Forecasts have the remnants of Hurricane Debby clearing the area on Saturday morning, so hopefully morning showers will give way to sun throughout the day. Temps both days should be the low 80’s. The wind forecast looks spirited, with directions out of the NW and W on Saturday at 10 to 15 knots, and moving to SW on Sunday a bit stronger from 11 to 18 knots.
Thanks,
Commodore Brian
