The Catalina 22 is one of the most popular trailer-sailor/racer sailboats in the country. First produced in 1968, it is also one of the very few sailboats that remain in continuous production. It is also a charter member of the Sailboat Hall of Fame. Owing to its general popularity it is also the most prevalent cruising vessel on the Lake and the Catalina 22 fleet is the largest of the Cruising Fleets in the Club.
We are affiliated with both the Nockamixon Sail Club (as the Catalina 22 Fleet) and the Catalina 22 National Organization (as Fleet 98). We encourage our members to join and be active in both organizations. In the Nockamixon Sail Club we report up to the Rear Commodore of Cruising. We frequently submit articles to MainBrace, the national organization publication.
We are primarily a cruising group with a growing racing contingent. We participate in all of the cruising events at the Lake which occur almost every weekend from May to October including bareboat charters away from the Lake. However, nationally the Catalina 22 has a well established racing fleet. We are starting to see some interest in racing at the Lake and racers are welcome to race in the Portsmouth Division of the NSC races. We have a fleet flag which we proudly fly on all our vessels. We also have a fleet patch that can be added to shirts, hats, bags, etc. Annually we award the Catalina 22 Fleet 98 Sailor of the Year award at our Fall banquet. We have been investigating several service projects to get involved with as a fleet.
